Petra Westphalen: Die Häuser von der frühgeschichtlichen Warft Elisenhof

Among the major archaeological research projects concerning the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein is, without a doubt, the early medieval dwelling mount of Elisenhof on Eiderstedt near Tönning in the District of Nordfriesland. The site has been repeatedly investigated since the 1960s and has appeared and been discussed in numerous publications. This Viking Age inland settlement at the mouth of the River Eider is an important regional and functional counterpart to the early urban trading centre of Hedeby (Haithabu) on the River Schlei. In the present volume, the numerous house remains and other features found in the settlement on the Elisenhof dwelling mound have also been presented and discussed in detail.
