Wikinger Museum Haithabu (Hedeby)

The new permanent exhibition

Runestone from HedebyAt the Wikinger Museum Haithabu you will find one of the most up-to-date archaeological exhibitions in Europe: unique original finds, reconstructions and innovative explanatory media take you on a journey back in time to see what life was like in the early township of Hedeby. Numerous objects provide evidence of the crafts and trade carried out here. Jewellery and weapons from richly furnished graves and the impressive rune-stones bear witness to the presence of nobility in the locality. The royal ship from Hedeby’s harbour was once the fastest vessel on the Baltic, and is the central feature on display in the boat hall, where you can look and learn about quayside life in Hedeby a thousand years ago.
