Zwischen diesen Pfeilern zirkulierten Menschen, innovative Ideen sowie Waren aller Art. Die Konferenz, auf der die Beitr\u00e4ge in diesem Buch beruhen, fand in Aachen statt (November 2022), einem Machtzentrum der Karolinger und Europa allgemein, f\u00fcr das eine dichte \u00dcberlieferung gegeben ist; karolingische Architektur besteht noch bis heute, und es gibt, jeweils aussagekr\u00e4ftig, eine zeitgen\u00f6ssische Schrift\u00fcberlierung sowie arch\u00e4ologische Untersuchungen. Der Konferenzband versteht sich als Beitrag zu der seit Jahrzehnten intensiv betriebenen \u2018Pfalzenforschung\u2019, doch es wird nun erstmals der Blick nach Nordeuropa gerichtet. <br \/>Was den Norden angeht, so war die Kenntnis einer Architektur der Macht lange Zeit auf Steingeb\u00e4ude begrenzt, deren Fundamente zum Teil noch stehen und die in die Zeit nach 1000 geh\u00f6ren. Erst in den letzten Jahrzehnten konnten durch den gro\u00dffl\u00e4chigen Detektoreinsatz in D\u00e4nemark bzw. gro\u00dffl\u00e4chige Siedlungsgrabungen in Nordeuropa Herrschaftssitze in Holzbauweise nachgewiesen werden, vor allem f\u00fcr das j\u00fcngere erste Jahrtausend n.Chr. Dies betrifft vorrangig Lejre und Tiss\u00f8 (D\u00e4nemark), Upp\u00e5kra and Uppsala (Schweden) sowie Kaupang and Borg (Norwegen). Von diesen Orten stammen umfangreiche und teils exklusive Funde, und es gelang der Nachweis von gr\u00f6\u00dferen Hallen f\u00fcr Versammlungen und kleineren f\u00fcr Kult. \u00dcberraschenderweise fehlen bisher repr\u00e4sentative Wohngeb\u00e4ude, wie sie eigentlich anzunehmen sind.<br \/>Erst nun, mit Entdeckung dieser Herrschaftssitze im Norden, zeitgleich mit der karolingischen Bl\u00fcte von Aachen, kann der Versuch unternommen werden, nord- und mitteleurop\u00e4ische Forschungen zusammenzubringen und die oben genannte Aspekte zu diskutieren. Das Thema erf\u00e4hrt eine Erweiterung dadurch, dass die Machtzentren in Aachen und Karakorum, Hauptstadt des Mongolischen Reichs in der Mitte des 13. Jhs., einer vergleichenden funktionellen Analyse unterzogen werden. Der Konferenzband wird durch ein Peer-Review-Verfahren gehen und in englischer Sprache publiziert. Das Buch hat ein Gegenst\u00fcck, einen Konferenzband auf der Basis einer Tagung im mittelschwedischen Uppsala (Juni 2023). In jenem Fall liegt der Schwerpunkt auf nordeurop\u00e4ischen Herrschaftssitzen aus dem Zeitraum von 700-1300 (zun\u00e4chst in Holz-, dann in Steinbauweise), verbunden mit der Frage, ob es kontinentale Vorbilder gab. <\/p><div class=\"ms-editor-squiggler\" style=\"color: initial; Die Konferenz, auf der die Beitr\u00e4ge in diesem Buch beruhen, fand in Aachen statt (November 2022), einem Machtzentrum der Karolinger und Europa allgemein, f\u00fcr das eine dichte \u00dcberlieferung gegeben ist; karolingische Architektur besteht noch bis heute, und es gibt, jeweils aussagekr\u00e4ftig, eine zeitgen\u00f6ssische Schrift\u00fcberlierung sowie arch\u00e4ologische Untersuchungen. Der Konferenzband versteht sich als Beitrag zu der seit Jahrzehnten intensiv betriebenen \u2018Pfalzenforschung\u2019, doch es wird nun erstmals der Blick nach Nordeuropa gerichtet. Was den Norden angeht, so war die Kenntnis einer Architektur der Macht lange Zeit auf Steingeb\u00e4ude begrenzt, deren Fundamente zum Teil noch stehen und die in die Zeit nach 1000 geh\u00f6ren. Erst in den letzten Jahrzehnten konnten durch den gro\u00dffl\u00e4chigen Detektoreinsatz in D\u00e4nemark bzw. gro\u00dffl\u00e4chige Siedlungsgrabungen in Nordeuropa Herrschaftssitze in Holzbauweise nachgewiesen werden, vor allem f\u00fcr das j\u00fcngere erste Jahrtausend n.Chr. Dies betrifft vorrangig Lejre und Tiss\u00f8 (D\u00e4nemark), Upp\u00e5kra and Uppsala (Schweden) sowie Kaupang and Borg (Norwegen). Von diesen Orten stammen umfangreiche und teils exklusive Funde, und es gelang der Nachweis von gr\u00f6\u00dferen Hallen f\u00fcr Versammlungen und kleineren f\u00fcr Kult. \u00dcberraschenderweise fehlen bisher repr\u00e4sentative Wohngeb\u00e4ude, wie sie eigentlich anzunehmen sind. Erst nun, mit Entdeckung dieser Herrschaftssitze im Norden, zeitgleich mit der karolingischen Bl\u00fcte von Aachen, kann der Versuch unternommen werden, nord- und mitteleurop\u00e4ische Forschungen zusammenzubringen und die oben genannte Aspekte zu diskutieren. Das Thema erf\u00e4hrt eine Erweiterung dadurch, dass die Machtzentren in Aachen und Karakorum, Hauptstadt des Mongolischen Reichs in der Mitte des 13. Jhs., einer vergleichenden funktionellen Analyse unterzogen werden. Der Konferenzband wird durch ein Peer-Review-Verfahren gehen und in englischer Sprache publiziert. Das Buch hat ein Gegenst\u00fcck, einen Konferenzband auf der Basis einer Tagung im mittelschwedischen Uppsala (Juni 2023).
