Die Analyse der metallenen Kleinfunde wird dabei durch Dr. N. Lau und Dr. A. Rau, beide ZBSA, durchgef\u00fchrt.<\/p>\n<p>Erste Funde wurden im Bentumersiel bereits zwischen 1928 und 1930 im Zuge des Abbaus von Ziegelton freigelegt. Ausgrabungen fanden in den fr\u00fchen 1970er Jahren statt, fortgesetzt wurden sie 2006\u20132008 unter Leitung von Dr. E. Strahl (NIhK). Die Befunde der fr\u00fchen Ausgrabungen, die auffallend vielen r\u00f6mischen Funde aus Metall und Keramik, die bodenkundlichen und vegetationswissenschaftlichen Aspekte und die Tierknochen wurden bereits 1977 von K. Brandt, G. Ulbert, K.-E. Behre und D. Zawatka\/H. Reichstein publiziert (Probleme der K\u00fcstenforschung im s\u00fcdlichen Nordseegebiet 12, Hildesheim 1977). Weitere Artikel zu den neueren Ausgrabungen wurden u. a. zwischen 2003 und 2011 von E. Jhs. n. Chr. Hierbei handelt es sich vor allem um Ausr\u00fcstungsteile r\u00f6mischer Legion\u00e4re und Elemente von Pferdegeschirr, aber auch um Terra Sigillata und Fragmente unterschiedlicher r\u00f6mischer Gebrauchskeramik. Befunde, die eindeutig in das 1. Jh. n. Chr. geh\u00f6ren, wurden bislang allerdings nicht zweifelsfrei identifiziert. Bereits G. Ulbert schlug 1977 vor, dass diese Funde mit gro\u00dfer Wahrscheinlichkeit mit den schriftlich \u00fcberlieferten Feldz\u00fcgen des Germanicus in den Jahren 15\/16 n. Chr., bei denen die gro\u00dfen Fl\u00fcsse als Einfalls- und Versorgungsrouten in das Landesinnere genutzt wurden, in Verbindung zu bringen seien. Diese Interpretation wurde in der Forschung kontrovers diskutiert. Ein kleiner Anteil der Funde weist allerdings auch in das 2. und 3. Jh. n. Chr.<\/p>\n<p>Die neue Analyse, basierend auf einer genauen Datierung und Einordnung der Kleinfunde, soll unter anderem zur Interpretation des Fundplatzcharakters und dar\u00fcber hinaus zur Erkenntnis seiner Bedeutung f\u00fcr das Weser-Ems-Gebiet als Anlaufpunkt f\u00fcr die r\u00f6mischen Feldz\u00fcge des fr\u00fchen 1. Jhs. n. Die Befunde der fr\u00fchen Ausgrabungen, die auffallend vielen r\u00f6mischen Funde aus Metall und Keramik, die bodenkundlichen und vegetationswissenschaftlichen Aspekte und die Tierknochen wurden bereits 1977 von K. Brandt, G. Ulbert, K.-E. Behre und D. Zawatka\/H. Reichstein publiziert (Probleme der K\u00fcstenforschung im s\u00fcdlichen Nordseegebiet 12, Hildesheim 1977). Weitere Artikel zu den neueren Ausgrabungen wurden u. a. zwischen 2003 und 2011 von E. Strahl ver\u00f6ffentlicht. Der Fundplatz, auf dem bereits eine Siedlung der vorr\u00f6mischen Eisenzeit nachgewiesen werden kann, ist gepr\u00e4gt durch einen au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnlich hohen Anteil von Objekten aus dem Kontext des r\u00f6mischen Milit\u00e4rs des fr\u00fchen 1. Jhs. n. Chr. Hierbei handelt es sich vor allem um Ausr\u00fcstungsteile r\u00f6mischer Legion\u00e4re und Elemente von Pferdegeschirr, aber auch um Terra Sigillata und Fragmente unterschiedlicher r\u00f6mischer Gebrauchskeramik. Befunde, die eindeutig in das 1. Jh. n. Chr. geh\u00f6ren, wurden bislang allerdings nicht zweifelsfrei identifiziert. Bereits G. Ulbert schlug 1977 vor, dass diese Funde mit gro\u00dfer Wahrscheinlichkeit mit den schriftlich \u00fcberlieferten Feldz\u00fcgen des Germanicus in den Jahren 15\/16 n. Chr., bei denen die gro\u00dfen Fl\u00fcsse als Einfalls- und Versorgungsrouten in das Landesinnere genutzt wurden, in Verbindung zu bringen seien. Diese Interpretation wurde in der Forschung kontrovers diskutiert. Ein kleiner Anteil der Funde weist allerdings auch in das 2. und 3. Jh. n. Chr.
