Germanic elite under Roman impact<\/h6><p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-7037 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/zbsa.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/schmidtFrienstedt1kl.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"356\" height=\"378\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zbsa.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/schmidtFrienstedt1kl.jpg 356w, https:\/\/zbsa.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/schmidtFrienstedt1kl-283x300.jpg 283w, https:\/\/zbsa.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/schmidtFrienstedt1kl-11x12.jpg 11w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 356px) 100vw, 356px\" \/>On 1st November 2009, a two-year research project began, dedicated to the Roman Iron Age site of Frienstedt, near Erfurt; the project is sponsored by the Fritz-Thyssen Foundation. This site, approximately half of which was excavated between 2000 and 2003, comprises an artisans\u2019 settlement with clear evidence for the working of non-ferrous and precious metals, together with extremely abundant material remains of Roman provenance. There are also 11 inhumation graves of the Ha\u03b2leben-Leuna group as well as a presumed cult site. This rare combination permits investigations, on the one hand, into the social structure and formation of a regional elite in the Barbaricum during the Late Roman Iron Age and, on the other, into questions relating to the economic, technological and cultural influences from the Roman Empire and their possible political background, especially during the 3rd century AD.<\/p><p>Within the framework of examination assignments, student assistants will evaluate the closed ceramic find complexes as the basis for an empirically constructed chronology. And in the laboratories of the project\u2019s co-partner, Th\u00fcringisches Landesamt f\u00fcr Denkmalpflege und Arch\u00e4ologie (TLDA) in Weimar, material analyses will provide new clues relating to the ceramic and metal technology, and in particular to Central German hand-thrown wares, made on a potter\u2019s wheel. November 2009 ein zweij\u00e4hriges Forschungsprojekt begonnen, das dem j\u00fcngerkaiserzeitlichen Fundplatz Frienstedt, Stadt Erfurt, gewidmet ist. Dieser Fundplatz, der 2001\u20132003 etwa zur H\u00e4lfte ausgegraben wurde, umfasst eine Handwerkersiedlung mit nachgewiesener Bunt- und Edelmetallverarbeitung und \u00e4u\u00dferst zahlreichen Materialresten r\u00f6mischer Provenienz, dazu elf K\u00f6rpergr\u00e4ber der Ha\u00dfleben-Leuna-Gruppe sowie vermutlich einen Kultplatz. Diese seltene Kombination erlaubt Untersuchungen einerseits zur Sozialstruktur und regionalen Elitenbildung der j\u00fcngeren r\u00f6mischen Kaiserzeit im Barbaricum, andererseits auch zu Fragen des \u00f6konomischen, technologischen und kulturellen Einflusses aus r\u00f6mischem Gebiet und deren m\u00f6glichen politischen Hintergr\u00fcnden insbesondere im 3. Jahrhundert n. Chr.<\/p>\n<p>Im Rahmen von Examensarbeiten werten studentische Hilfskr\u00e4fte die geschlossenen keramischen Fundkomplexe als Grundlage einer empirisch erstellten Chronologie aus. Am Labor des Kooperationspartners Th\u00fcringisches Landesamt f\u00fcr Denkmalpflege und Arch\u00e4ologie (TLDA) in Weimar werden materialanalytische Untersuchungen neue Anhaltspunkte zur Keramik- und Metalltechnologie, insbesondere zur mitteldeutschen Drehscheibenware liefern.
