Commission for
The Final Palaeolithic of Northern Eurasia
Le Paléolithique Final de l’Eurasie du Nord

It is our pleasure to invite you to participate in the next Commission meeting which will be held in Schleswig, Germany, from 5th to 7th November 2013. Please note that the online registration for the meeting is now closed!

We plan to have two full days of presentations and discussions. This will take place in the lecture hall of the Archaeological State Museum at Schloss Gottorf. The final day will be devoted to a field excursion to the Ahrensburg Tunnelvalley and other Late Palaeolithic sites in the region.

The meeting is a tribute to the 80th anniversary of the seminal excavations conducted by Alfred Rust in the Meiendorf kettle hole in the Ahrensburg Tunnelvalley. For this reason we explicitly welcome papers related to Hamburgian studies, but of course all papers related to the Final Palaeolithic of Northern Eurasia are welcome. Presentations should be prepared to last 20 minutes. The programme will allow time for discussion. The conference language will be English.

We envisage the symposium to be organized around the following five themes:

  • 80 years after Meiendorf – advances in the study of the Hamburgian
  • Raw material use, lithic industries and blade technologies in the Final Palaeolithic
  • Man and environment in the Late Pleistocene
  • Late Palaeolithic reindeer hunters and their prey
  • Other communications (site reports, presentations of materials, etc.)

Participation fee:
Please note that there will be a fee for participating in the excursion of 20 €

Accommodation:
Participants will have to make their own arrangements for travel and accommodation. Enclosed please find a list of local hotels.

Kind regards – on behalf of the organizing committee

PD Dr. Berit Valentin Eriksen
President of the UISPP Commission for
